This lesson plan adapts bowling for young children using soft equipment and a marked floor, so a class can learn rolling, aiming and teamwork without a full lane. Objectives Develop hand–eye coordination. Practise throwing and rolling movements. Build teamwork and a first sense of competition. Equipment A lane marked out with coloured mats or rope rather than a real lane. Light plastic balls in place of standard bowling balls. Cones to mark the lane edges and the pin positions. A music player for the warm up and the activity. Small prizes, optional, for the end of the session. Lesson steps Warm up: simple stretches such as wrist circles and ankle rolls to prepare the children for rolling. Introduce the game: explain the basic idea of bowling and how to roll the ball toward the pins. Demonstrate: show the stance, the swing and the release, then let the children copy. Practise: children roll in turn from the marked line, with the group waiting behind it. Play: a short team game where each child rolls once and the group counts the pins that fall. Cool down: a short review of what went well, then prizes or stickers if used. Teaching notes Emphasise participation and encouragement rather than winning. Adjust distance and ball size to the age and ability of the group. Watch for fatigue and give rest breaks during the session. Extensions include inviting parents to join, marking numbers or letters on the pins so children learn them while playing, and offering balls of different weight and shape to try.
