Consecutive strikes have their own vocabulary, and scoreboards and commentary use it constantly. A strike is all ten pins on the first ball; the terms below name a run of them and the situations around a score sheet. Consecutive strikes Strike: all ten pins knocked down with the first ball. Turkey: three strikes in a row, worth 30 pins before the following balls are counted. Four bagger: four consecutive strikes. Five bagger: five consecutive strikes. Six bagger: six consecutive strikes. Seven bagger: seven consecutive strikes. Eight bagger and beyond: the same naming pattern continues for longer runs. Terms around a score sheet Split: pins left standing with a gap between them, which makes a spare harder. Spare: all remaining pins knocked down with the second ball after a first ball that did not strike. Open frame: a frame in which pins are left standing after both balls. Foul: crossing the foul line, which cancels the shot. Pocket: the ideal entry area between the front pins for a strike. Pin deck: the area at the end of the lane where the pins are set. The naming of long strike runs is informal and varies by region and league, which is why some scoreboards print the total rather than a name once a run passes a few strikes. The wider vocabulary is in bowling terminology and bowling professional terms. Rules are in bowling rules and playing styles.
